CANNABIDIOL: WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS?

The most common use for cannabidiol or CBD oil products is for seizure disorders or epilepsy. It is also effective at relieving anxiety and depression, improves sleep, reduces pain, and inflammation. People also use this for a muscle disorder called dystonia. Others claim that it is also helpful for people with Parkinson disease and Crohn disease. However, there is no reliable scientific evidence to support these claims. About half of CBD-users use cannabidiol or CBD oil products to relax or reduce stress and anxiety. It is also common for users to take CBD first thing in the morning because of reported awakening effects.

Beneficial for treating seizures

The Food and Drug Administration approved Epidiolex in 2018. It is the first CBD-based drug for treating epileptic seizures. There are well-conducted trials to back up these claims. CBD is also helpful in two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or LGS and Dravet syndrome. Researchers conducted most trials by using either marijuana or a combination of CBD and THC. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is the one that causes the high feeling. There are only a few trials on CBD alone.

No high feeling

You can extract cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. There are over two hundred different types of these substances, and CBD and THC are only two of these. Does CBD get you high? Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive properties, so it will not give you a high feeling. According to the World Health Organization, there is no evidence that it can cause serious side effects. There is also no evidence that it has any abuse or dependence potential.

Other health benefits

treating seizures

CBD relieves the following:

  • Acne
  • Anxiety
  • Arthritis pain
  • Depression
  • Inflammatory pain
  • Muscle-spasticity in various sclerosis
  • Nausea and vomiting associated with cancer
  • Nerve-related pain
  • Sleep disorders

There are no severe side effects associated with CBD, but it can cause nausea, tiredness, and irritability. It may also interact with some medications like warfarin.

Supplement

CBD is only a supplement and not regulated for safety and purity. You cannot be sure if the product does contain CBD at the dosage listed. You also cannot be sure if it contains any other unlisted ingredients. Nobody knows the most effective therapeutic dose of CBD for any medical condition. It is because research into CBD is quite scarce.

Other drugs

There are two drugs that you should never take with CBD oils or other CBD dietary supplements. These are clobazam and valproic acid. Taking CBD with clobazam intensifies the way the drug works. Combining valproic acid with CBD can injure your liver.
